We use Premium Edge
and Blue Buffalo. Our Vet. said when using Premium Edge to make sure there is always enough water out for the dogs (which
we do any way) and maybe put some water on the food. Dogs tend to want to drink more with Premium Edge for some reason.
July, 2010 - We are using Blue Buffalo for Puppies - the pink bag. The following are the ingredients of
Premium Edge: Chicken, chicken meal, egg product, cracked pearled barley,
ground rice, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols), millet, potatoes, tomato pomace, natural chicken flavor, ocean
fish meal, flaxseed, salmon oil (source of DHA), choline chloride, dried chicory root, kelp, carrots, peas, apples, tomatoes,
blueberries, spinach, dried skim milk, cranberry powder, rosemary extract, parsley flake, yucca schidigera extract, L-Carnitine,
dried fermentation products of Enterococcus faecieum, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus casei and Lactobacillus plantarum,
dried Trichoderma longibrachiatum fermentation extract, vitamin E supplement, iron proteinate, zinc proteinate, copper proteinate,
ferrous sulfate, zinc sulfate, copper sulfate, potassium iodide, thiamine mononitrate, manganese proteinate, manganous oxide,
ascorbic acid, vitamin A supplement, biotin, calcium pantothenate, manganese sulfate, sodium selenite, pyridoxine hydrochloride
(vitamin B6), vitamin B12 supplement, riboflavi The first ingredient should be a meat, not a by-product meat either. Premium
Edge food also has the AAFCO Statement. Blue Buffalo has excellent ingredients and the AAFCO Statement. Try to
stay away from foods with wheat and gluten - this is hard to digest. Oatmeal does have some gluten but not enough to
worry about. The dogs love the Blue Buffalo Lamb and Brown Rice but we mix that with the Premium Edge. Blue Buffalo
Lamb and Brown Rice can make a puppy's stool thick which gets messy. The Premium Edge seems to go through their digestive
system better. But the Lamb recipe supposedly helps hair grow longer. Mixture of both dog foods tends to work
better. People food to watch for: CHOCOLATE, MACADAMIAN NUTS, GRAPES (CAUSES DIARRHEA), APPLE SEEDS
AND MANY OTHER FRUIT PITS, ONIONS. There are many websites with no no's on people food. Maltese are NOT known
for health concerns, but they are small and therefore have small livers to clear out the toxins. We do not feed our dogs any thing from
China, only products made in the USA. Natural products, such as pig ears, NO RAWHIDE - they can not digest it.
Also, look for expiration dates on the bags of Food and other Foods.
